A Dreamy Lake Tekapo Engagement Photoshoot with Natalie & Shaun

Last month, I had the absolute joy of photographing a dreamy engagement session with two of the loveliest people, Natalie and Shaun.

Originally from Malaysia and now living in Singapore, these two met online a few years ago. Since then, they have built a relationship filled with adventure, laughter and doing pretty much everything together. Their connection is grounded in open communication, deep respect and, most importantly, having fun together.

And honestly, it shows.

We spent a beautiful morning exploring Lake Tekapo and the surrounding Central Otago high country, chasing the soft morning light and making the most of the crisp winter air.

Starting with Coffee at The Greedy Cow

Every good photoshoot needs a good coffee first!

We started our morning at The Greedy Cow Cafe in Tekapo, where we could warm up, chat and get to know each other before heading outside.

I love beginning engagement sessions this way. It gives my couples a chance to relax, forget about the camera and simply enjoy being together. It also gives me the opportunity to get to know their personalities and capture the little things that make their relationship unique.

After just a few minutes with Natalie and Shaun, it was clear how naturally they fit together.

Exploring Lake Tekapo

Our first stop was the iconic Church of the Good Shepherd, one of the most recognisable landmarks in the Mackenzie Basin.

The church grounds were closed for a private wedding, so we had to get creative and find a beautiful angle nearby. Sometimes those unexpected little moments end up becoming some of my favourite photographs.

From there, we headed into the golden tussock grass and followed the morning light around Lake Tekapo.

With the Southern Alps stretching out behind them, Natalie and Shaun simply enjoyed being together. There were quiet cuddles, big laughs, playful lifts and plenty of those in-between moments that feel completely natural.

Nothing was forced. Nothing felt posed.

Just two people completely comfortable in each other's company.

Love in the New Zealand High Country

There is something incredibly special about photographing couples in the New Zealand landscape.

The Central Otago and Mackenzie Country landscapes are dramatic, wild and beautiful, but they also create so much space for couples to slow down and simply be together.

For an engagement photoshoot, I love capturing more than just beautiful portraits. I want to capture the feeling of the relationship. The laughter. The little touches. The way you look at each other when you think nobody is watching.

With Natalie and Shaun, those moments came so easily.

Their morning was full of warmth despite the chilly winter temperatures, and the combination of soft morning light, golden tussock and the Southern Alps made the whole session feel a little bit magical.

Planning a New Zealand Engagement Photoshoot?

If you're planning an engagement, elopement or wedding in Lake Tekapo, Queenstown, Wanaka or Central Otago, I would love to capture it for you.

My photography style is relaxed, natural and fun. I want you to feel like yourselves in front of the camera, rather than spending your session worrying about poses.

Whether you're planning a romantic engagement session, a New Zealand elopement or your dream wedding surrounded by mountains, let's create something that feels genuinely like you.

Natalie and Shaun, thank you for such a beautiful morning. It was an absolute joy to capture your connection and explore this incredible part of New Zealand with you.
