Newborn Photography in Central Otago – Capturing the Very First Days
More and more, I find myself truly loving these quiet little sessions.
Those first days with a new baby pass so quickly. Tiny hands, sleepy cuddles, soft little stretches, and the way parents look at their baby for the very first time. I believe these moments deserve to be frozen forever.
As a photographer, I love creating relaxed and natural newborn photography sessions across Central Otago, including Wanaka, Queenstown, Cromwell, and surrounding areas.
My newborn sessions are simple, calm, and connection-focused.
No stress, no pressure. Just your family as you are.
I also really enjoy talking with fresh parents, especially mums, about their birthing experience and the emotional journey into parenthood. Every story is different, and every family carries its own beautiful energy into these sessions.
Some babies sleep the whole time.
Some want cuddles the entire session.
Some older siblings run around wild and free.
And honestly, that is exactly how it should be.
I want your photos to feel real and timeless — images that will still mean everything to you in 20 years.
Natural newborn photography is not about perfection. It is about remembering.
Remembering how tiny they were.
How full of love your home felt.
How life suddenly changed forever.
If you are looking for newborn photography in Central Otago, Wanaka, Queenstown, or Cromwell, I would love to capture this very special time with you for you.

Tips for Your Newborn Photoshoot
Newborn sessions are relaxed, natural, and all about capturing this beautiful little season of life in an honest way. Here are a few simple tips to help prepare for your session with Bilderbuch Photography.
Best Time for Newborn Photos
I always recommend photographing your baby early on, ideally within the first two weeks. Babies are usually still very sleepy and curly during this time, which makes for those calm and cozy images everyone loves.
But honestly — there is no “too late”.
Every stage is beautiful.
In Your Home or Mine
Most newborn sessions happen in your home, where everyone feels comfortable and relaxed. Your home tells part of your story, and that makes the photos even more personal.
I am also very happy to welcome you into my space if that feels easier for you as fresh parents.
What to Wear
Simple is always best.
Soft neutral colours photograph beautifully and keep the focus on connection and emotion rather than clothing.
I recommend:
- creams
- beige
- soft browns
- whites
- earthy tones
Try to avoid:
- big logos
- bright neon colours
- large prints or busy patterns
Timeless always wins.
Bring a Small Toy or Special Item
I love using a tiny toy, teddy, or special object during the session to show just how small your baby really was in those first days.
These little details often become favourite memories later on.
I also have a small collection of simple props and blankets available for sessions.
Hands Matter
Parents — don’t forget your hands will be in many close-up photos holding your baby.
Clean hands and tidy nails make a big difference in those beautiful detail shots of tiny fingers wrapped around yours.
Most Important of All
Please do not stress.
Babies cry. Babies feed. Parents get tired. Older siblings go wild sometimes.
That is all part of it, and completely okay.
My sessions are slow, relaxed, and baby-led. The goal is not perfection — it is capturing your real family and this very fleeting moment in time.
If you are looking for relaxed newborn photography in Central Otago, Wanaka, Queenstown, or Cromwell, I would love to hear from you.
